What’s a URL? What’s my website?

Ya know that bar at the top of your web browser where you type in web addresses? That’s what we call a URL; think of it as a sort of naming or numbering for every single page on the World Wide Web, including your StyleSeat profile page.

StyleSeat lets you choose your URL for your profile page, so clients have an easy and direct way to find you.

From your home page, go to “My Profile”/ “edit profile” / “basic info”.  Just below the “about me” text box, you will see “My StyleSeat Web Site*” followed by “www.styleseat.com/” and another text box.

Enter your name, your nick name or something else relevant to you or your business and is easy to remember. [*Note: make sure it’s short enough to remember and the spelling is easy for clients to search.] Scroll to the bottom of the page and hit “save”.

www.styleseat.com/ whatever you entered in the text box, will now be a direct link to your StyleSeat profile page. (URL’s are not case sensitive, which means if I write “michelle” in all lower-case, and someone types in www.styleseat.com/MICHELLE, they will still land on my page.)

This web address is now your business website. You can share it with clients and friends, and you can print it on your business cards!

Improve your page ranking!

What’s a Page Ranking?

Did you know that every web page on the internet is put into a ranking system that effects its placement in search results?  This includes your StyleSeat profile as well as how your profile is searched for and found in StyleSeat’s directory search.  There are a few variables that can help bump up your profile into the top search results when potential clients are searching your services and location, and we wanted to share them with you!

First things, first.

What determines my page rank?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a tool StyleSeat, as well as many other websites or search engines, uses to help users find the best of what they are searching for.

The order of appearance in search results (besides the listings in the light yellow box, those are paid for) is dependent upon relevance of keywords between the searched item, and the pages being searched. For example, if your StyleSeat profile lists you as a hairstylist in San Francisco, CA, and you offer a haircut as one of your services, someone who types in “haircut, San Francisco, CA” will receive your profile in their search results, though not necessarily on the first page.

How do I improve my page rank?

There are a few things you can do to improve your page rank for your StyleSeat profile:

  • Make sure you use the correct words, and simple descriptions when defining your profession and services. These provide the keywords that will help your page show up in search results. A client won’t typically search “Fabulosity Fierce French Manicure”, But they will search “Manicure” or “French Manicure”.

  • Ask your clients to write you recommendations on your profile, or have us do it for you! Find out how

  • Encourage friends, family and clients to comment and heart your gallery photos.

Recommendations, comments, and hearts are super important because they help to boost your search ranking.  Think of each of these features being worth a given amount of points.  The more recommendations, comments or hearts you accumulate, the more “points” you accumulate as well, generating a “score” and your page ranking.  The more recommendations, comments and photo hearts you receive, the more “points” you accumulate, and the higher ranking of your page.

Is there anything else I can do to generate more attention to my profile?

Of course! Remember earlier when we said “the more frequently listed” links are more likely to be clicked on? Using other sites to list your business in addition to your StyleSeat profile can be extremely beneficial.

Sites like Yelp.com and Googles Places provide an additional search factor as well as rating system.  List your business on either one, or both of these sites and use your StyleSeat profile as your business website link to connect all of them and improve your the traffic for all of your pages.  And don’t stop there! Make sure your StyleSeat profile is connected to your Facebook and twitter pages too.  The additional attention to all of your pages increases the likelihood of generating more clientele and therefore, profit.

There ya go! Enjoy!

How to connect to your school’s page

Hey Guys!

If you click your school name on your profile and you are NOT taken to your school’s page, chances are you’re not connected. If your school/campus has a StyleSeat School page, you must connect your profile to be added to their home page. Here’s how:

Your school name MUST appear in teal, and it must be an active link:

Active school page:

When you click on the teal link on Amy’s page, you will be brought to Ogle School North Dallas’s StyleSeat School page:

If you’ve now realized that you accidentally joined the wrong school or campus when you signed up, no worries! It’s an easy fix! Here’s how:

On your StyleSeat homepage, go to “My Profile”/ “edit profile” / “basic info”.   Below the “about me” text box, you will see “My School”.

Here will be the school name you have already listed.  Click the teal [X] at the end of the text box to delete that school and campus name.

In the same text box, begin entering the name of your school (wait a second for the drop-down menu to appear). The various campuses will be listed; the real ones will have a location in parentheses after the name of the school.

Select your campus then scroll down to hit the “save button” at the bottom of the page.

Your newly selected school and campus will now show up on your profile below your name. Click “View Profile” to check it out!

If you’re a student and you have access to your school page, you can also click the “Join this School button on your school’s page to automatically get added to their page.

Is your school not listed? Just enter the name of your school in the blank field and we’ll create a page for them! Just email info@styleseat.com and request it.
